I have a confession to make. I am not one of those interior design bloggers who has a stunning home of their own. There’s no way around it; my home is pretty blah in some ways. Also it looks nothing like the cute clip-art above. It actually looks like this:
I bought my 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath townhouse condo in April 2010, so I’ve lived here for nearly a year. It needed a lot of work initially. I had new carpet installed and did a whole lot of painting. It’s remarkable how far I’ve come, but the realities of my single gal income and two jobs lifestyle have caused progress to be very slow going lately.
When I chose my paint colors, I was literally a matter of weeks away from discovering my passion for interior design. As you’ll see in the photos below, my living room is two-toned, half blue and half brown. I don’t want anyone (especially the people who helped me paint) to think that I hate these colors, they’re simply not in tune with the tastes I’ve developed.
Repainting is an option, and the more I think about it the more I kind of want to. But I have been hoping to find simpler ways to update the space.
This little mini-makeover is a result of my day trip to the IKEA store in Canton, Michigan from a few weeks ago. A child-sized chair has been replaced with a proper side table. I purchased a new cover for my IKEA Poäng chair (I got the chair itself for a steal on Craigslist).
This little corner of my living room is the area that I am most pleased with. I love the Poäng chair, and I also totally spoiled myself by purchasing the sheepskin to lay across it. I love natural materials like this and hope to continue adding them to my home.
- LACK Side Table
- ALÄNG Table Lamp
- POÄNG Chair, medium brown frame, Dala natural cover
- LUDDE Sheepskin
On the other side of the room more drastic changes were made. Previously I had been woefully propping up my TV on a chaise, which is now gone altogether. I now have a proper TV stand and I also purchased an Expedit bookshelf to provide storage and a place for nick-nacks. Eventually I’d love to display only treasured, pretty little things on the bookshelf, but for now it’s housing pretty much whatever was laying around.
I really don’t know where to go from here. I’m very happy with the changes that I’ve made, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. I am open to any and all suggestions you may have regarding furniture arrangement, additional pieces I could procure, ideas for wall decoration, or whatever! I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated on my progress! 🙂Like This Post
