If the kitchen is the heart of the home, then the dining room is like… well… I was really hoping I was going to be able to come up with a brilliant corresponding human body metaphor here but everything that comes to mind sounds gross. Haha! The dining room is like… a major artery? The lungs? Oh I don’t know! What’s important is that all that time spent in the “heart” of the home ends up leading us to this one place: the dining area. Whether it’s integrated right into your kitchen or you have a separated grand and formal dining room, the space where we sit down to eat can be uplifting and invigorating.

I love plush rugs like this, though I think realistically I would be too worried about not spilling on it to have one underneath the dining table. Via Micasa.
We took a look at the wonderful details on the sideboard in this room in a previous post. Pulling back and viewing the whole room is also a pleasing feast for the eyes! The home of Irina Graewe, via Design*Sponge.
I absolutely love the choice of two benches for seating at this table. I imagine it would make one feel more connected to the others at the table, and is also something delightfully different visually. Plus, the color palette of this room is amazing. So serene! Images of this home have been popping up all over blogland ever since they debuted on Skona Hem a few days ago. The combination of white, gray, and wood is very popular.
So many things to love about this Finnish home! Colorful bunting, mismatched chairs, a bold striped rug, and I also recently realized how much I love the string-of-lights look. What do you think? Photographed by Petra Bindel, via Dwell.
