Bedrooms To Dream About

April 28, 2011

The remodel of my half bathroom is definitely under way! My dad has helped me pull out the old vanity and toilet, so now I have an empty little room to thoroughly clean and patch up before the newness can be brought in. It’s exciting as well as exhausting. Hopefully it won’t be too terribly long before I can show you my progress! In the mean time, enjoy these lovely bedrooms!

There’s something delightfully casual about a mattress just thrown on the floor. This beautiful quilt has more prominence in the room as it makes up the entirety of the visual presence of the bed. While I still think I would prefer a bed frame, it’s encouraging to see that you can make it work if need be. Photographed by Daniel Hertzell via Söderberg Agentur.

A stunning use of texture in this bedroom. I love the pattern on the bed! Via Vårt Nya Hem.

Well what do you know, another mattress placed straight on the floor. Perhaps this is an emerging trend? Via emmas designblogg, the home of photographer Andreas Öhlund.

Typically I’m drawn to rooms that have a subtle use of color, but there is nothing subtle about the color blocks in these windowed doors. What do you think? Via Micasa.

This is an excellent example of how you can introduce bits of color on top of a neutral base to keep it from being boring or plain. The yellow pillows and green window treatment save this room from appearing rigid. Instead it has a wonderful masculine and cozy feel. Photographed by Paul Brissman, via Sköna Hem.

Oh how I long for floor to ceiling windows. Though I’m surprised we don’t see any method of blocking out the sun in this bedroom. I suppose if you’re planning on being up at dawn every morning it wouldn’t really matter, right? Also loving the sparse nightstands, an excellent choice when you don’t want to block the view. I want the first one and the last one. Mostly the last one because of the dog.

I really like the 1st pic. The dark wooden floor, the orange+red and of course the balcony/the light. And I agree, it’s something special with mattresses straight on the floor like that! I have never liked too high beds, yet neither thought of skipping legs or a bed frame… Interesting. Will look out for it, might very well be a trend.

And wow, I actually got the thought I might remove the legs on my bed….Hm, we’ll see 🙂 Also this last pic is magnetic!! You rarely see a bed that fluffy and inviting. It’s like a dream.

Hi Mia! 🙂 I imagine it would make your bedroom feel completely different if you removed the legs from your bed. Could be very fun!

I completely agree with you on the last picture. I would love to jump in that bed and stay a while.

Always so happy to hear from you! 🙂

Hi, I actually did it! 🙂 Pondered it for a moment then went straight to action. Mike was in bed, not sleeping luckily (I wouldn’t go so far as to wake him for this project :p )) and after my whimsy explanation as to Why?? he agreed to help me hold the bed so I could take the legs off!!

And the result: lovely. Looks more fun, less traditional. Also, the ceiling is high and we have a rug running from celing down to floor (like a narrow headboard) – that part got greater impact.

In sum, your inspiring post got immediate effect! 🙂
