I hope those who observed Labor Day had a wonderful long weekend! On Sunday I rather spontaneously decided to start prepping my dining room walls for painting. So far I’ve primed the whole area below the chair rail and about a third of the wall above it. I know its kind of lame to stop in the middle of something like that, but have you ever painted alone? It is exhausting. And boring. Especially when its just primer so you’re not really seeing exciting results.
I also went to Lowe’s and got a whopping six different paint samples. The plan as of right now is to use a very dark color for below the chair rail and a light gray (similar to my new half bathroom) for above the chair rail. I’ve been curious about using dark color on walls and I figured this room would be a great place to give it a try since it gets great natural light and I can balance it with a light upper half.
The leaders for a dark wall color right now are Napoleon (left) and Elegant Evening (right). Napoleon is very near black but has a blue and purple tint. When I first put the sample on the wall I thought it looked far too purple but after drying it was more what I was expecting. With the light gray wall color up top I imagine it would read even less purple and more black, which I like. Elegant Evening is obviously very blue. I’ve really been all about neutral walls in theory, but when I paged through hundreds of interior images looking for color inspiration, about a third of the ones I took note of involved dark blue (like this). So clearly on some gut level I must love dark blue walls, and in fact when I slapped the sample up I thought it looked very striking. I am nervous about it though, because for so long I’ve been wishing I had more neutral walls.
I’d love to hear your opinions! Keep in mind this is just for below a chair rail. The sheen will be satin or glossier.
Unfortunately I’ve already run my home improvement fund dry just purchasing some new paint supplies (finally got a canvas drop cloth!) and the paint samples. So it may be a bit before I can actually purchase this new paint. Oh well, that gives me more time to make my decision! 🙂
Alright on to the goodies. Naturally, some pretty dining rooms for you.
Ah, good old white. I LOVE that rug. Via decorology.
This room is incredibly stripey and I like it. Photographed by Pernilla Hed via Sköna Hem.
This picture just melts me. I love the construction of the table and the colors in the art, but most of all the bright pink and purple table-scape is so pretty. Via Haute Design.Like This Post
