Soothing Kitchens

January 9, 2012

Last week in a very uncharacteristic last minute decision, I dropped one of my classes and registered for a different one instead. It’s a long story. I am hopeful that the new class will be a better fit for me and my goals.

So now starting tomorrow I will have class after work (which is 8:30-3:00) on Tuesdays from 4:30-7:30 and on Wednesdays from 5:00-10:00. Ten o’clock! I usually try to be in bed before ten o’clock so this may take some getting used to. The longest class period I’ve ever had was 3 hours so I sincerely hope a 5 hour class does not drive me insane. Fortunately we’re not dealing with something horrendous (to me) like Chemistry or Calculus. The class is titled “Housing and Home Furnishing”, which sounds right up my alley!

For some reason these kitchens really soothed my mind this morning. They look like nice, clean places where you can go to brew a good cup of coffee in the morning and just take a deep breath. Which sounds lovely to me right about now. By Urrutia Design via Houzz.

I really love the super dark finish on these wood cabinets especially paired with the white counter. From Lonny Mag Jan/Feb 2011, designed by Lynn Nigro, found via the handmade home.

I am in love with this chalky blue-green wall color. From Côte Maison, found via what wilson wants.

That floor is amazing and the use of red is lovely. Designed by Jessica Helgerson via Savvy Home.

Another fabulous floor. I think I like this one even more. From the home of designer Kristen Buckingham, photographed for Elle Decor, found via Amber Interiors.

While I no longer gravitate towards all white rooms like I used to, the simple palette seems to suit this room very well. By 1st Option, via desire to inspire.

Another shot of the same white kitchen. They’ve used white and light gray wallpaper here which keeps with the very light color scheme but introduces some lovely drama and texture. I love the use of pretty sheer drapery panels framing the view to the outdoors. More pictures of this home at 1st Option or desire to inspire.
