Bedrooms From Bare to Bold

July 16, 2012

I am SUPER psyched because tomorrow a contractor and plumber are going to be at my home and *fingers crossed* the leak in my kitchen ceiling will finally be fixed! I’m also going to get a couple recessed can lights installed (not tomorrow, but soon) which is really exciting given the very poor light in that room currently.

Now I’m going to compose an awkward segue: Once my leak is repaired I’ll be able to… sleep easy… ideally in one of these nice bedrooms!

I really really like this style and color palette. Garance Dore and Piper Perabo by recent settlers on Flickr.

I don’t know why this nook would possibly exist, and it is a little awkward how the bed is stuffed in there, but I still kind of love it. The black wall is perfect. Elle Interiör via my ideal home.

Occasionally traditional rooms win me over. This bedroom is airy and playful, which keeps the traditional furnishings from coming off as stuffy.  Styled by Marianne Cotterill.

Sometimes I love a room that’s a little bare. The ultra light blue wall color provides just enough interest and the simple bedding fits the mood. I would probably still want to find something to put on that wall, though. The home of Jane Cameron via Design*Sp0nge, via

This wallpaper is pretty awesome. I adore the bits of muted peach and purpley gray. Designed by Betsy Burnham via Savvy Home.

I am fully aware that this is so not everyone’s cup of tea, but I LOVE IT. I seriously desperately love that wall color. And the suzani bedspreads are beautiful. And golden moldings?! I’m going to have a heart attack. Please tell me someone else out there thinks this is fabulous. Photographed by Roger Davies via desire to inspire.

A bed nook would be way cool, but you’re right, that one does seem sort of awkward. It’s a little too…narrow maybe? Maybe if there was room for bedside tables in the nook as well. I do agree though, the black is perfect for that wall.

Normally I like very minimalist design, but that bare room is just too bare for me. Maybe it’s because the color palate is so one-dimensional.

I think that bright wall color is beautiful, but maybe not for a bedroom. You know, the age-old rule about having calming colors in the bedroom and whatnot.

You- you like that pinky peach wall color?! Really?! That makes me happy. Haha. You have a good point about keeping calming colors in the bedroom, but I think that’s a rule that can be broken occasionally.

I’m noticing that the “bare” room isn’t quite as appealing on this different monitor I’ve viewing it on now, and I think it’s because the light blue wall is a little more washed out. The color on the wall really helps a lot to make it feel less stark, so maybe they should have gone a shade more saturated.

I do think monitors make a huge difference. On mine the wall in the bare room doesn’t seem to be blue at all, and the bright room’s wall color is more orange than pink.

I totally love that peach bedroom with the suzani bedspreads. I think the suzanis cut the sweetness nicely.

Glad to hear you love it too Kerry! And you’re right, the suzanis offer a maturity that suits the room very well.
