Kitchens That Make My Heart Go Aflutter

July 23, 2012

I have these grand notions of one day being a fabulous cook. I’m not at all bad as it stands, I’m just seriously lacking in versatility. Nearly every night I have one of two things for dinner. Yeah. Some of my problems are my own (I’m often too impatient to dive into a new recipe or start an hour-long cooking process), and there’s also a lot of things about my current kitchen that are perpetuating the situation. Very little counter space makes even slightly elaborate recipes a total chore, very little pantry and freezer space makes keeping a wide variety of ingredients on hand unrealistic, and to top it all off my kitchen is just ugly and doesn’t exactly inspire me to spend time in it.

So forgive me when I get a little overly excited about beautiful kitchens. Some of these seriously make my heart beat faster.

I am completely obsessed with kitchens that combine white, black, and then accent with something special. In this case I’d say the gorgeous wood floors and beams are the something special, and that shock of color from the flowers completes a beautiful composition for this photograph. The chevron trend is way over-played in my opinion but I could totally dig the subtle use of it in this incredible back splash. I love everything about this. Glossy white cabinets, impressive shiny oven, modern range hood, and the pop of pink in the flowers is killing me. Designed by Croma Express, photographed by Virginia MacDonald for Style at Home Magazine via Cultivate, via sadie + stella.

I find this kitchen particularly inspiring because it reminds me a lot of my own narrow galley and low-ceiling kitchen. I really must love white cabinets. The butcher block counter top adds the perfect warmth and the rag rug offers a bit of homey texture. Bo Bedre via 79 ideas.

White cabinets can go modern, country, traditional, the whole range. I think I slightly favor modern, but more classic styles are still constantly catching my eye. This island is AMAZING. So much space to spread out and with dark wood and white marble no less. By ML Interior Design.

There’s that white and wood again. This time with THE MOST AMAZING BRASS ACCENTS EVER. Seriously I think I fell off my chair the first time I saw this. If I think about that range hood too much I may hyperventilate. Photographed by Matthew Williams for Dwell via Design Manifest.

It’s the trifecta: white black, and gold. I mean… look at those sinks, look at those faucets, look at those door pulls, look at that subway tile, look at the oven… gah my heart! If I was to remodel my kitchen today I think there is no question what finishes I would select. Photographed by Roger Davies for Elle Decor via My Favorite and My Best.
