Bathrooms in Shadow and Light

Bathroom Design on

I have some enchanting bathrooms for you today, each with a perfect mix of dark and light. I love this first one so much. I’m all about dark walls, and here it is perfectly balanced with the white wainscoting and finishes. So many people are uncomfortable with the idea of dark walls, assuming it will make the room feel small or like a cave. Many dark colors like black actually have a receding effect to the eye, which means dark walls appear to be further away and therefore the room looks bigger!

Black and white, perfect partners. This room is mostly light but with accents of black with the tub and ceiling. Black on the ceiling has the same receding effect as it does on walls. An illusion of taller ceilings! What do you think of this open shower area? I sincerely hope there is a hidden drain somewhere.

This one is my favorite of the bunch today. It looks so lived-in and homey. I’m sure the cute dog is contributing to that quite a bit. A beautiful mix of shadow and clean whites. I’m a sucker for accessories that look natural, like they just fell into place. (Though in reality they were very carefully placed by a stylist!) Which of these bathrooms would you most like to have in your own home?

I totally agree with you on the first bathroom. It’s perfect! And even more together with the accesories in the last pic, a bit more relaxed vibe. Gorgeous!

If the first and third photos could somehow meld into one I would be in heaven! 🙂 So glad you like these, Mia.

I absolutely love the first bathroom! You know me, I love dark walls, and it fits so well in that space. I’ve also got a thing for clawfoot tubs, and the tile in the shower is beautiful. Plus, look at how bright and light that room is with those windows! I hope they don’t have any neighbors nearby, because I know I’d want those open all the time!

I am really glad we agree on dark walls, since we usually differ a bit when it comes to interior design! 🙂 Clawfoot tubs really are beautiful to look at, though if I ever have one I’m afraid I’ll never use it which is a shame!
