Get To Know You – When I was a kid…

I’d really like to know more about you, my readers. If I didn’t want to connect with people through my blog, I’d be writing in a diary instead. So I thought it’d be fun if every Saturday we shared one random fact about ourselves. A sort of recurring get-to-know-you, I suppose.

Tell me your answer to this question in the comments below!

When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up to be…

a famous singer in a band. I have a decent voice, and musical fame sounded oh-so exciting. In middle school I actually tried to start a band with my friends, only one of which was at all musically inclined. That did not last long.

Once I got old and jaded (you know, highschool), my ambitions re-focused on something only slightly more realistic: becoming a famous author. I wrote poetry for many years, only some of which survives today and only some of which does not make me cringe. Poetry is so much easier than novel-writing, which is what I really wanted to do. Poems can be short and nonsensical. But novels have to make sense and can certainly never be written in one sitting. Do I have the patience for that? Maybe when I grow up.

You have more than a decent voice…you have a beautiful voice that I haven’t heard in a while! Would love to hear it again! When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up to be….a mom! <3

What a neat idea! I’m new to the blogsphere but so far, your blog is my favourite.

    • Z, you just straight up made my day. Thank you! I checked out your blog and got a chuckle out of your “10 Reasons Why I’m terrified of having kids” post, especially #8, “What if my child never wants to talk to me because the IPhone 100 has an app for a robot substitute mother?” I feel like this scenario is more probable than any of would like to admit. Haha!

I’m glad I could make your day! I am new to this whole blogging thing but it’s really neat to read other blogs. I just hope people (especially in their twenties) can relate to the topics I write about.

When I was little I always wanted to be a famous artist. Being able to create something that people would stop and admire for ages after I was dead. I eventually left that dream because I figured I would never be able to make a living as one.

    • You too with the fame thing, eh? It sucks when reality checks in and being able to pay the bills becomes more important than grand dreams. You could always make art as a hobby though and still get to experience the joy of creating something. :)

I first wanted to be an astronaut until I realized that my eyes are too bad, and then an architect.

When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up to be… a restaurant owner, and not just any restaurant. It would be a high end, high class Italian restaurant with an impeccable reputation and the best food anywhere. At a minimum, I knew I wanted to own my own business.
Well… at least the second part came to be
I am actually thankful I did not pursue the restaurant idea. Whenever I dine out, I always keep my eye out for the manager/owner of the restaurant. It’s usually easy to tell who she or he is. They are rushing around busting their but – and its Saturday night! Plus, just like in farming, you can do everything right and still go bust. People are fickle, and even the best run restaurants with the best food sometimes go out of style and close up. I’ve seen it many times.
So to all you restaurant owners out there (and farmers too), I tip my hat to you and say “you have my respect and admiration”.
As for me, on the weekends I just pretend to own a restaurant and have fun whipping up new dishes for my family to enjoy.

    • Yeah being a restaurant owner sounds like a potentially very stressful career. Owning your own business is definitely a huge accomplishment. And those dishes you whip up for your family have always been appreciated! :)
