Traditional chairs paired with quirky wallpaper and personal styling make an excellent spot to sit with a cup of coffee and chat. Doesn’t this just look so cozy and inviting? If you have a non-functioning fireplace whose appearance you’re not overly fond of, there’s nothing wrong with placing furniture in front of it like this. It probably wouldn’t work as well with something like a big sofa which would obscure it entirely and make it too obvious that you’re trying to cover it up, so go with lighter pieces like these chairs. The mantle is still given prominence with a nice mirror and a plant is placed on the hearth so the hole in the wall seems less pointless.

Now this combination of floor and wall treatments may not be everybody’s jam, but you can see that it is likely original to the structure and I love that they’ve preserved it. Ripping it all out in favor of modern finishes might look great, but it wouldn’t have nearly as much soul. Warm glowing floor lamps light up the area, which looks perfect for a game of cards. I might throw down a modern rug for even more warmth and to create a fun contrast with the vintage tile.

Wood is a great go-to for warming up a space. A wall treatment like this is bold and a big commitment. Trying it in a smaller space like a sunroom or office would be a good idea in my opinion. Paired with crisp white upholstery and colorful accessories makes this wood-clad space a delightful mix of rustic and happy chic.
