Typically the word “busy” when referring to interior design is not going to be a good thing. But I submit for your consideration that busy isn’t always bad. When it comes to the use of lots of accessories and knick-knacks, there are strong opinions for and against busy rooms. My eyes crave both simple, minimal spaces as well as rooms filled with interesting bits and bobs.

The key, when using lots of accessories, is to be very deliberate about your color palette. In the second photo, blues and greens are the focus. In this last living room, the color palette is a little looser (which I prefer) but it is still very thoughtfully put together. The largest areas of the room (the walls, the rug, etc.) are neutral, allowing for a plethora of accessories in several fun colors. This is Emily Henderson’s living room so of course I love it. I would jump out of a moving car for that sofa.

There really is a fine line between over decorated and boring! The first one is a little too busy for me, but I love the others. They have just enough interesting bits and bobs. 🙂

Yes, definitely a fine line. You know I agree the first one is more than I’d want in my own home, but I admire it. I think it shows how bits and bobs can be classy too. 🙂 I’d live in the last one in a hot second.

i actually don’t hate the first one and if it was someone else’s house I’d LOVE it…..I just couldn’t live with it in my home. It would give me a headache! Lol. 🙂

I love them all! It looks like someone actually lives here and we get an insight in to their personality. So much better than looking like a showroom!
